In the summer season, demand for car rental at the Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman and Izmir airports rises several times over. Booking at the right time decides both the price and the class of car. We have prepared a practical guide for the summer holiday.
When to book?
In the June-September high season, booking early brings both a lower price and a wide choice of cars. For bookings made between January and March, high-season prices can be 10-20% lower. Holiday periods and mid July-August are the busiest weeks; booking at least 6-8 weeks in advance is recommended.
Season multipliers
As you see in our calculator, low season (November-March) is 15% cheaper than the regular tariff, high season (June-September) 35% dearer and holiday periods 50% dearer. If your holiday dates are flexible, you can save considerably by choosing the shoulders of the season (May or October).
Which vehicle class?
- Two people, town and beach: an economy or compact hatchback; easy parking in narrow streets.
- A family of four: a mid-size saloon or compact SUV for luggage and comfort.
- A group of six or seven: a large SUV or VIP minivan, with airport-hotel transfer included.
- Mountain roads and plateaus: an SUV or 4x4.
The airport pick-up advantage
Airport handover removes the need for a taxi or transfer. When you give your flight number, delays are tracked automatically. The airport handover fee is a one-off 350 TRY and spares you the hassle of carrying luggage.
Summer points to watch
- Check at handover that the A/C works and tyre pressure is right.
- Do not leave valuables in the car; prefer shade when parking.
- Mind speed limits on coastal roads; traffic fines are passed on to the hirer.
- If you need a child seat, add it when booking; stock at the airport is limited.
Fuel and route plan
Coastal roads are narrow and twisty; the distance on the map tells only half of the real driving time. In summer petrol stations concentrate on popular routes; refuelling before the tank falls to half is a good rule. Downloading an offline map helps in areas without coverage.
One-way rental
One-way plans such as collecting at Dalaman and returning at Antalya extend your holiday route. State the one-way fee at booking; off-season this service is sometimes on promotion.
